The Middle Side Bar Strip is located between the Beaver Pond Strip and The Short Tree Strip. This advanced strip is a 1000' long semi-rough lichen and moss covered gravel and black sand surface. As you make your approach down into the moraine you will follow the river bend as the mountain slopes into glacial river drainage. The close proximity of this strip to the Upper Lake George moraine cause there to be some very large rocks sticking up from the surface just short of the landing site, for this reason pilots must be vigilant not to come in to low. On short final you will see that at beginning of the strip that there is a significant ditch that one must be aware of when landing. All these conditions together make this strip one of the most advanced strips we train on.
Upon securing the aircraft, pilots who are interested in a short hike can follow the river to the lake. Where the awesome panoramic views reveal Colony Glacier flowing down into iceberg filled Upper Lake George.
